By NBC News and msnbc.com staff

Updated at 5:40 p.m.:?Two children died and at least two others were injured Wednesday after they were shocked while swimming in a lake in east Tennessee, authorities said.

The accident happened near the German Creek Boat Dock on Cherokee Lake in the town of Bean Station.?A family of two adults and four children was swimming in the lake between the house boats at the marina, Grainger County EMA Director Jeffrey Atkins told WATE-TV.

Two children were electrocuted and were pulled out of the water unconscious, Randy Holt, executive director for Grainger County's 911 Center, told NBC News.?They were taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.?Two juveniles who were swimming complained of pain in their legs and were also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Two adults on scene collapsed and were also taken to the hospital, but Holt could not say for sure if they, too, were electric shock victims.

The marina was evacuated as a precaution.

Authorities were searching for the source of the electric current. Atkins said it may have been a generator.
