'Pete Smalls is Dead'
W2 Media has acquired all North American distribution rights to the comedy "Pete Smalls Is Dead," starring Peter Dinklage, Tim Roth, Seymour Cassell, Rosie Perez, Steve Buscemi and Mark Boone Jr. and directed by Alexandre Rockwell. W2 plans an October theatrical release. The announcement was made in Cannes on Thursday by W2 Media President and CEO John Flock. Rockwell also wrote and produced the film with Brandon Cole. Producing alongside Rockwell and Cole were Floyd Byars, Paul Hudson, Dan Kreston, Jen Li and Sean-Michael Smith. "This acquisition validates our strategy of offering our filmmaking partners a theatrical home in North America for those films we represent internationally," said Flock. "'Pete Smalls' has been a hit on the film festival circuit but we know it has even greater potential in a commercial market and will cast the net wider to let audiences discover this great film." Earlier in the week, W2 Media acquired U.S. distribution rights to the British coming of age comedy/drama "Toast." It will open the pic theatrically on June 11 at the Lincoln Center in New York, W2 launched at the European Film Market in Berlin and recently released the thriller "Essential Killing," starring Vincent Gallo, in Canada.
